Why Your Color Analysis Doesn't Matter and Why You Should Wear What You Want Instead
As I'm sure you've heard, finding your "season" (a color palette suited to your skin tone, eyes, hair, etc.) is super important when it comes to looking fashionable, making shopping easier, and even feeling more confident in your everyday appearance. But, I'm here to tell you that's not always important, nor is it always easier in the long run.
The reasons I don't believe in falling for a seasonal color analysis is because it makes people confused and it's not always 100% accurate. While some say it helps you expand and explore your wardrobe, I think it traps you in a box--and not a very fun box at that. A color analysis is also a very personal preference when you boil down to it because not everyone fits into one category-- some might say, "You're definitely an autumn!" and another person might say, "I love summer colors on you!" It all comes down to who you are talking to and even what you look like on different days. Some days I have on self tanner and look super tan, so I fall into a more summer season. But if I'm my usual pale self, I fall into an autumn category in the eyes of others.
So, instead of worrying about finding your "perfect" seasonal color, I want you to focus on these factors instead:
#1 Your Personality
Are you outgoing and sociable? Or maybe shy and down-to-earth? Either way, these traits are unique to you and should be shown through the clothing you wear. Someone who is bubbly and easily excited probably doesn't want to be put into a one-size fits all box for an autumn season, especially if they love baby blues and bright pinks. For instance, I'm a mix between shy and outgoing, but I cannot think of a worse thing than having an entire closet full of different shades of tans and browns, even though people say I fall under the autumn season. I want all the color: hot pink, teal, yellow, and even sometimes, lime green. I still love black, whites, and brown, but I want my personality to shine through with the clothes I wear.
#2 Your Preferences
The best way to figure out what you look best in is figuring out what you feel your best in. Do you like bright and flashy clothing or do you enjoy neutral colors? The interests that you have will help you decide how to build your wardrobe and create outfits that you feel confident and happy in. Maybe you only like black clothing and it's the color that makes you feel the best--that's what matters in the end, not what season you are because of your hair or skin tone.
What All of this means:
When it comes to fashion, it's best to stick to who you are and what your personal preferences are. Even if a color analysis tells you that you should stick to bright colors in the summer season because you have blonde hair and a neutral skin tone, that doesn't mean you have to. Life is too short to be put into a box and not allow yourself to explore the different styles available to you.
Always stay true to yourself and make sure you're dressing how you want because you want to, and not because someone else told you to.
